I’ve said it a million times… “I hate running! It’s not for me. And if you ever see me running, you better run too because something is probably chasing me.” #truestory 🤣 I also used to tell everyone “I can only run 3 miles. That’s my max.”

Well, I’m a woman and I’m allowed to change my mind!

In April, I started dabbling with running. In May, I committed to BREAKING AWAY from my own limiting beliefs about, and guess what? With every run, I have started to love it more and more! It’s more than physical y’all. It’s totally a mental journey! And, that’s why I LOVE IT!

By the way, I proved myself wrong. In July, I ran my longest tempo run at 7.5 miles. Next Goal: a half marathon in December for St. Judes and for a local boy, Jakey Duque, who lost his battle with DIPG.

What is 30-Day Breakaway all about?

Think of 30-Day Breakaway as your two-for-the-price-of-one fitness program.

Alright, let’s drive into the specifics!

What are the workouts like?

Some days, you can expect to complete the resistance training portion of the workout, then immediately after pop in your headphones for a quick run! Other days you’ll only be completing one or the other! But the program calendar will guide you through which workouts to complete when.

During the resistance training workouts… 

The focus of the workout will switch from day-to-day but will touch on everything: upper-body, lower-body, abs, core, you’ll work it ALL! 

And these workouts are as hard as you make them — simply choose a heavier or lighter weight or grab a different resistance loop to increase or decrease the intensity!

Each workout is quick & effective and designed, not only to help you build muscle and burn fat, but to help improve your running, too!

During your runs…

Each run will feel a little different, have you ever tried any of the “Couch to 5K” apps? If so, you might recognize some similarities – that’s because 30 Day Breakaway uses interval training, just like most 5K training programs do!

Pop in your headphones and choose the audio-only option, and you’ll be guided through each run (or walk). During the interval training runs, you’ll be asked to push yourself for periods of time, then slow down to a steady pace where you can catch your breath and enjoy yourself! For some people, this may mean switching from a steady walk to a slow easy jog. For others that are more experienced, it could mean running with short sprints!

And remember — it’s all up to YOU how fast you want to run, jog, or walk.

The program is designed to push you and change you, but not hurt you, and not leave you gasping for breath the entire time. Because that’s never fun!

30-Day Breakaway focuses on TIME, NOT DISTANCE — so find what feels good and keep going!

Then, on your final day, you’ll finish the program by running a full 5K!!

What if it’s raining & you can’t go outside?

You’ve got 2 options:

  1. Got a treadmill? Hop on the treadmill and turn on a video-guided run and run indoors alongside Idalis!
  2. No treadmill, no worries — there’s a Rainy Day Cardio workout that you can complete to get your heart pumping on those rainy days.

How long are the 30-Day Breakaway workouts?

“Strength training AND running?! How much time do I need to do this program?!”

Listen, I thought the same thing, too! And then I discovered that it only takes 30-40 minutes/day. YES! And you won’t be working out every single day, either, there are rest days built into the program for you.

But if even that is too much for you, there’s a separate Time Crunch Calendar you can follow that will shorten your daily time commitment to just 30 minutes or less! 

  • Standard Calendar: 30–40 minutes daily
  • Time Crunch Calendar: 30 minutes or less

What equipment is required for the program?

You don’t need much to get started with 30 Day Breakaway check it out…

  • Light, medium, & heavy weights
  • Beachbody Resistance Loops
  • Running shoes
  • Wireless earbuds or headphones
  • Foam roller for recovery
But I want to take a moment to stress how IMPORTANT it is to invest in a good pair of running shoes!

Do not simply throw on an old worn-out pair of sneakers – this can lead to some major pain, over time, potential injury. And your cross-training shoes you might use for your Beachbody workouts, those aren’t going to cut it either! 

Not all shoes are made alike. Would you wear baseball cleats to play golf? Probably not. Then don’t wear training shoes to run and vice versa. Each type of shoe serves a different purpose and provides a specific type of support in your training. 

Running shoes are not “one size fits all.

I recommend getting fitted for a great pair of running shoes. You can find a running store in your area OR you can try the Brooks Running website. I actually took the online quiz where they asked me tons of questions to assess how I walk and such. With the data collected, they recommended the Brooks Running “Ghost 12” shoes. I LOVE THEM! Like running on clouds. They make running so much more enjoyable for me. No knee pain. No back pain.

Also, shoes usually have a 6-month shelf-life before they start breaking down. This affects your performance. So please check your shoes for wear and tear before starting your running journey with 30 Day Breakaway!

As for earphones, I recommend wireless ones. I use the Trekz Air by Aftershokz.

A pair of running shorts with pockets, is also a plus so you don’t have to hold your phone on your hand.

Who is the trainer for this program?

Only one of the most AWESOME trainers around — okay, I’m biased because I was in the cast of Mes de Mas, her very first Beachbody Program!
